Here's an old article about the music industry that recently resurfaced on one of those tech blogs I sometimes read while my computer is busy at work:
> Some of your friends are already this fucked
The author's numbers on the way a typical record deal for an indie band stacks up:
Record company: $710,000
Producer: $90,000
Manager: $51,000
Studio: $52,500
Previous label: $50,000
Agent: $7,500
Lawyer: $12,000
Band member net income each: $4,031.25
This is the same industry that sues dead people and shuts down guitar tablature websites. Every time they pull the "we're ensuring that artists have an incentive to continue their craft" argument, let's just remember how they really treat their artists.

It was a good day. A very good day. That's Ed in the foreground and Robert and Ben and Rajesh and Melanie hidden throughout the pic.
